Green Reporting Act
The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007
Under this Act, the Government is establishing a single, national system for reporting greenhouse gas emissions, abatement actions, and energy consumption and production by corporations from 1 July 2008.
Data reported through the system will underpin the Australian Emissions Trading Scheme. The ability to monitor, report and verify businesses' emissions data will be essential for maintaining the environmental and financial integrity of the trading system. Key features of the system are:
- a single online entry point for reporting based on the Online System for Comprehensive Activity Reporting (OSCAR).
- a standard data set and nationally consistent methodologies
for reporting; - public disclosure of company level greenhouse gas emissions and energy data;
- consistent and comparable data provided to government for
policy making; - secure data storage; and
- reporting thresholds that avoid capturing small business.
Corporations will be required to register and report if:
- they control facilities that emit 25 kilo-tonnes or more of greenhouse gas (CO2 equivalent), or produce/consume 100 terajoules or more of energy; or
- their corporate group emits 125 kilo-tonnes or more greenhouse gas (CO2 equivalent),or produces/consumes 500 terajoules or more of energy.

Canberra Data Centres (CDC) have been able to shift the Data Centre paradigm to the next generation today. The Data Centre can address power and cooling densities of up to 30kW per rack by using the APC by Schneider Electric Closed Coupled Cooling and Hot Aisle Containment methodology. This methodology, combined with the dynamic allocation of power & cooling in a just in time manner, achieves energy efficiency savings of up to 65% when compared to traditional facilities Click here to view.
